A Sickle Cell Blog For The Community

Welcome to the sickle cell blog for the community. I’d like to start by saying THANK YOU! With most of us currently isolating / shielding due to the coronavirus outbreak, this may be a great way for us to observe our thoughts and feelings during this time.

You Have Arrived At This Blog Because We Have Something In Common; Sickle Cell.

Whether you are a warrior yourself, a carer of one, or someone who supports the cause and wants to learn more, sickle cell has brought you here.

The My Friend Jen community is a beautiful one. I know this because I see all the support and receive all the feedback and kind, heart-felt messages. Whether it’s through emails, direct messages on social media (I do check the DM’s when I can), book reviews and even by the love I am shown when I meet people in person. It’s beautiful, and I want to share it.

With everything that is currently happening globally, staying connected and encouraging each other as best we can has never been more important. I believe having a space where we can read, share and support each other will not only help us to get through this difficult time, but also build a sickle cell blog for the community that we can all continue to benefit from.

Writing Is Not Just For Writers, It Is For Everyone.

Although I have written children’s books and keep a public blog of my journey with sickle cell, I actually find writing to be a great form of therapy.

Also, if you’re like me and looking for ways to strengthen your immune system, a past study suggests that expressive writing may even improve immune system functioning, although it may need to be sustained for the health benefits to continue. (Murray2002).

So if there was ever a great time to start writing, I would say now is that time. With most of us currently isolating / shielding due to the coronavirus outbreak, this may be a great way for us to observe our thoughts and feelings during this time.

Will you join me in building our community blog?
